Tarbert became much brighter on Monday 2 December. The Christmas lights installed around the village were switched on during a festive evening organised by Tarbert Recreation Group.
The community gathered at the picnic area to witness the switch-on of many colourful lights which we will get to enjoy throughout December. However crisp, the evening did not lack warmth thanks to the carol singing of the children and adult choirs.
A centre of the event was a Sitka spruce donated by Aline Community Woodland. No small amount of effort was made to move the conifer to Tarbert. SSE, who are currently working in the area, offered to transport the tree and join forces with North Harris Trust staff. As Chris Sutton explained after the event, it is hoped that this new Tarbert Christmas tree will last for future years and be part of the annual decorations.
This year’s Christmas lights display will put a smile on many faces. Knowing how many people worked towards it is even more heart-warming.
